Lemon Tea Tree essential oil is steam distilled from from a relative of the more common 'Tea Tree' - both being of the Myrtaceae family. The oil has a pleasant, 'round' lemon scent, found by some to be smoother than lemongrass or citronella. It's main component, citral, can be irritating to the skin, so low dilutions are recommended.

It's bright fresh aroma is quite purifying. In low doses it can be stimulating, bringing relaxation with a little greater exposure. Diffused, it can clear the mind and be rejuvenating. In general, its actions are considered similar to 'common' tea tree but with a more pleasant, less medicinal scent.

Lemon Tea Tree is considered the ultimate natural mosquito repellent, and is effective on its own in a carrier oil. Because of its powerful nature, it should be diluted to near 2%, or about 20 drops per ounce. 12 drops Lemon Tea Tree, 4 drops Eucalyptus and 4 drops Cedarwood may be added to 4 ounces of water in a spray bottle and used on a dog's coat to keep away the fleas. (Using essential oils is not recommended on CATS however - though we've seen one go crazy over a drop of Rose!)

Lemon Tea Tree is also considered one of the best odor controllers. As above, it may be added to water in a spray bottle and applied to the offending area. A few drops may be added to any cleaning solution for the same effect.

Uses:

Apply Lemon Tea Tree essential oil topically in low dilutions; add to water and use in a spray bottle. Be careful, as the oil has been noted to be a skin irritant.

Lemon Tea Tree essential oil has been traditionally been used for its antiseptic, carminative and sedative properties.

Cautions:

Known skin irritant - use at low (<3%) concentrations. Test a small amount of essential oil first for sensitivity or allergic reaction. If pregnant or under a doctor's care, consult a physician.

Recipes:

Lemon Tea Tree Essential Oil has a fresh, lemon scent, and blends well with many other oils. It should be used sparingly in blends as not to overpower other aromas.
